Hardware
WARNING!
The battery on the iES32 baseboard cannot be replaced in the field.
Replacement of the battery with an incorrect type creates the risk of
explosion.
This guide gives the initial steps to set up the Stratagy iES32 hardware. Please read the entire
contents of this guide before beginning installation. See your Stratagy ES I&M Manual for
additional details.
The Stratagy iES32 consists of a motherboard and up to two daughterboards. The first
daughterboard is standard and is mounted just above the motherboard. It contains the hard drive
with approximately 600 hours of storage and can have from 4~16 voice ports (in increments of
four).
If a second optional daughterboard is required, it is mounted just above the first daughterboard and
can support up to an additional 16 voice ports (in increments of four). Systems purchased that
require more than 16 voice ports will be shipped with the second daughterboard already installed.
Additional ports are added remotely as upgrades by Toshiba Technical Support. If an installed
system with one daughterboard (16 voice ports or less) requires an upgrade to more than 16 voice
ports, the second daughterboard must be installed on the system before Toshiba Technical Support
can perform the remote port upgrade.
Internal Modem
The iES32 has an internal (soft) modem that operates at up to 36.6Kbps and can be used for
communication on any of the 32 voice ports.
SoftSAM
The SoftSAM is a software-based Stratagy Activation Module (SAM). When upgrading the iES32
for increased port capacities and enabling Feature Groups the same procedures are followed and
screens presented as outlined in the Stratagy ES I&M Manual for the hardware-based SAM.

Buttons
There are two buttons on the control panel--Shutdown and Power. To avoid accidental disruption
of the system, both buttons are recessed into the iES32 faceplate and must be depressed for
three~five seconds to perform their respective functions. Use a ball point pen or similar instrument
to access these buttons.
CAUTION!
Do not use any instrument that is conductive or magnetic (e.g., a magnetic
screwdriver).
· Shutdown Button Eliminates the need for a connecting cable between the iES32 and the
Stratagy Administration PC (or calling into the Administrator's mailbox to stop the Stratagy
application). Control Panel LED indicates the status of the shutdown.
· Power Button Powers off the iES32. Power can be turned off independent of the Strata CIX/
CTX, after shutdown. This enables you to remove the iES32 without interrupting the telephone
service.
Thermal Sensing
The iES32 is equipped with a device that senses the ambient and CPU temperatures. The device
checks the temperatures every five minutes and initiates either a Warning notification or proceeds
to shut down the system (software) if the temperature exceeds the defined threshold.
See "Thermal Sensing" on page 18 for details.

Installation Instructions
Pre-installation Instructions
· We recommend that you do a manual backup of the Stratagy iES32's SoftSAM prior to starting
any installation procedure. (See Chapter 14 in the Stratagy ES I&M Manual for instructions.)
CAUTION!
If the SoftSAM becomes corrupted and no backup exists, the Stratagy iES32 will
be out of service and cannot be repaired in the field. To save the customer any
down time, make a back up and store the disk(s) in a safe place.
· Make sure you have all the necessary parts and tools.
· Since all of the procedures require Stratagy be out-of-service, coordinate with the customer a
time for iES32 to be taken off line.
Step 1: Unpack and Inspect Stratagy iES32
1. When you receive the system, examine all packages carefully and note any visible damage. If
you find any damage, do not open the packages. Contact the delivery carrier immediately and
make the proper claims.
2. Check the items contained in the packages against the packing list. In addition to the hardware
components, you should receive an anti-static wrist strap, a caution sticker and a
documentation package with iES32.
3. Inspect all equipment for damage. If equipment is missing or damaged, contact your supplier
immediately.
4. Remove any shipping tape and packing material used to protect the system during shipment.
Retain the packing materials for re-use when transporting system hardware.

Installation Instructions
Step 2: Program Strata CIX/CTX
CAUTION!
You will be handling iES32 when it is most fragile -- unpacked and exposed. The iES32, if
handled properly, will give long, reliable service. To ensure that the unit is not damaged
during installation or maintenance, follow these precautions.
Damage may not always be immediately evident (e.g., no physical damage on the outside of
the unit) and system failure may result weeks or months later.
·
Handle iES32 with care. Mechanical shock from dropping, shaking, excessive force when
seating the board into the slot, rocking a connector on or other activities can severely
damage the disk assembly or the disk's printed circuit board.
·
Wear the anti-static wrist strap included in the package. It can also be re-used and left
with the Strata CIX/CTX cabinet. An electrostatic charge from your body can damage
the drive or circuitry permanently.
·
Hold iES32 by the edges or the knob on the control panel and never touch the board's
surface. Pressure on the printed circuit board or contaminants from your hands (e.g.,
skin oil, food particles, hand lotion) can cause component failure.
·
Always carry a Stratagy iES32 in it's factory provided anti-static bag and use its factory
shipping container when transporting it out to a customer site. Never transport an iES32
inside a CIX/CTX cabinet.
Step 2: Program Strata CIX/CTX
To the Strata CIX/CTX processor, the Stratagy iES32 functions as one or two digital station cards,
each supporting up to 16 voice ports (BDKU). Although there are some special program settings
required for iES32, the Strata CIX/CTX should be programmed just as it would for any external
voice mail system.
The Strata CTX can be programmed using the CTX WinAdmin program software or phone
programming command set. Refer to "Program CTX for Integration" on page 25 for programming
instructions.
The Strata CIX can be programmed using the eManager program software. Refer to "Program CIX
for Integration" on page 23 for programming instructions.
Step 3: Shut Down Strata CIX/CTX
Turn off the main power switch to the Strata CIX/CTX system.
6

Installation Instructions
Step 4: Install Stratagy iES32
Step 4: Install Stratagy iES32
CAUTION!
· Stratagy iES32 is a "computer on a board". Always ensure a proper operating
environment
· For optimal performance, the air temperature surrounding the CIX/CTX cabinet
should not exceed 95 degrees Fahrenheit/ 35 degrees Celsius.
· Install a Stratagy iES32 in the slot closest to the CTX power supply. This is slot 8 in the
base cabinet.
1. Locate the proper slot for iES32. (See guide lines below.)
2. Insert the card into the appropriate slot, and apply firm, even pressure to ensure proper mating
of connectors.
CAUTION!
Do not hit the board for proper seating. This can damage iES32 components.
Guidelines for CIX/CTX Cabinet and Printed Circuit Card
Installation
Strata CIX/CTX's internal components are designed for quality and reliability; however, care
should always be taken in regards to the location and environmental setting where a Strata CIX/
CTX is installed.
Environmental Specifications
The environmental specifications for the Strata CIX/CTX allow a maximum ambient operating
temperature of 104° Fahrenheit (40° Celsius). Due to the complex circuitry of some of the PCBs
that can be installed into a Strata CIX/CTX, we recommend that it be installed into a climate
controlled environment whenever possible. Another important consideration is that some PCBs
that can be installed into the Strata CIX/CTX have their own environmental requirements that may
require the CIX/CTX to be installed in a climate controlled environment with an ambient operating
temperature less than 104° Fahrenheit (40° Celsius).

Step 4: Install Stratagy iES32
Strata CIX/CTX Convection Cooling
The Strata CIX/CTX relies on a cooling method called convection cooling. Convection cooling
relies on the natural flow of air in order to draw away warm air and draw in cooler air. Within each
cabinet are holes in both the sheet metal and the plastic panels that assist in this process. As heat
rises, it naturally pulls cooler air from the bottom through each cabinet by way of these venting
holes (see Figure 2) and also from the holes in the side panels (see Figure 3).
Power Supply
Venting
Figure 2
Top View of CTX670 Cabinet
Figure 3
Side View of CTX670 Cabinet with Plastic Cover Attached
In addition to the cable routing cavities on either side of the cabinet, there are additional vents
beneath and above the power supply to allow air to more easily pass over and around it keeping it
cool (see Figure 3). The central portion of the PCB cage (S105) is the warmest area of the cabinet
since it is the furthest away from either side of the chassis where the air flows. The slot furthest to
the right (S108) is the coolest area due to its proximity to the air flow vents used by the power
supply. Although the power supply creates its own heat, the airflow in that area of the cabinet
compensates for it making it still the coolest location for PCB installation.
8
Stratagy iES32 Installation Guide 04/05
Installation Instructions
Step 4: Install Stratagy iES32
Cabinet Placement
Toshiba recommends that you install PCBs that require cooler environments in the lowest cabinet
in the stack. This is due to the "chimney-effect" created by the Strata CIX/CTX convection cooling
that makes the top cabinet the warmest cabinet. In addition, the most densely populated cabinets
should be located closest to the bottom of the stack.
CAUTION!
Always mount a CTX, containing a Stratagy iES32, on a firmly anchored
surface; e.g., a stable wall.
Do not install a CTX system on a wall adjacent to a frequently used door.
Resulting vibration, while data is being written or read, will cause drive data to
become corrupt or damage the drive permanently.
Stratagy iES32
The Stratagy iES32 has a mounted hard drive which also generates heat. Therefore, special
preference should be given to it regarding slot placement. Toshiba recommends installing the
iES32 in slot S108 of the base cabinet, if the board is required to support 16 voice ports or less. If
more than 16 ports are required, install the board in slot S107 of the base cabinet, leaving slot S108
vacant. Again, the base cabinet, with the iES32 installed, should be the lowest cabinet mounted in
the stack.
Since Toshiba recommends installing the Stratagy iES32 next to the power supply to improve its
cooling, the Stratagy iES32 should not be installed in a CIX/CTX expansion cabinet. This is
because the coolest slot of a CIX/CTX expansion cabinet is slot 10, and due to the timeslot matrix
of the CIX/CTX backplane, the iES32 will not work in slot 10. While the iES32 will work in slot
07 of an expansion cabinet, this slot is located towards the center of the cabinet and, therefore,
farther away from the cooler air flow near the power supply.
CTX Quote 7.00
To better assist dealers in assigning the appropriate slot for the Stratagy iES32, Toshiba has added
programming into CTX Quote version 7.00 that will automatically assign the Stratagy iES32 to its
proper slot configuration.
Summary
With an understanding of how air flows in a convection cooled cabinet, you should be able to
better determine the best location for PCBs requiring additional cooling.
· Avoid installing these PCBs in the center of a cabinet and in the topmost cabinet.
· Install PCBs next to the power supply in the base cabinet (slot S108).
· Cabinets containing PCBs requiring cooling should be placed at the bottom of the stack.
· Whenever possible, leave a card slot free on either side of the PCB to allow better circulation.
For iES32 optimal performance, the slot, the base cabinet, and the base cabinet positioning
recommendations regarding the Stratagy iES32, as documented in this bulletin, must be followed.
CAUTION!
The Strata CIX/CTX should be installed in an environment with an ambient
temperature that will not exceed 35 degrees Celsius or 95 degrees Fahrenheit.
Installing this system in a higher temperature climate than specified can lead to
product failure.
If you should have any further questions regarding the recommendations in this document, please

Base Cabinet
The Base Cabinet has two dedicated slots used for the system processor PCBs and eight universal
slots, labeled "S101~S108" that can accommodate iES32.
All eight slots (slots S101~S108) in the cabinet can accommodate iES32 with 16 ports
(motherboard and one daughterboard). If more than 16 ports are needed (a second daughterboard),
then the neighboring slot must be left empty. This is because iES32 requires the time slot
information delivered to that slot for the second group of ports.
To help protect against Strata CTX configuration errors, the physical profile of iES32 extends into
the adjacent CTX card slot when configured with the second daughterboard. See figure and table
below.

Step 5: Connect Stratagy iES32 Network Port to
Strata CIX/CTX
Note iES32 uses a static IP address as the default for its network setting that matches the
Strata CIX/CTX's default. Even if using a static IP, the iES32 must be properly configured
for the network it is being installed in. Check and/or change the IP address, default gateway
and SubnetMask settings. See "Microsoft HyperTerminal" and "NetSet" in the Stratagy ES
I&M Manual for instructions on changing the settings.
The iES32 Network port is equipped with a 10/100BaseT Ethernet connection. This port is used to
connect iES32 to the Local Area Network (LAN) for Unified Messaging (UM) and CIX/CTX
Integration.
The LAN connection can also be used to communicate with a separate Microsoft® Windows®
2000/ME/98 or Windows NT® computer using Stratagy ES Administration software.
The Network port can be connected in one of two ways. The one you use depends upon the
features enabled in iES32 (e.g., UM), the network requirements of the Strata CIX/CTX and the
end-users network environment.
· When using UM, a straight through network cable used with a network hub is required. This is
because of the need to connect to the Strata CIX/CTX for CIX/CTX Integration and the end-
users network for e-mail connectivity (see figure on next page). See next page for a figure on
the network interface jack pin numbers.

Step 11: Configure iES32 Settings
Follow the instructions in Chapter 3 Using Stratagy ES Administration and Chapter 4
Stratagy ES Configuration Menu of the Stratagy ES I&M Manual to configure the iES32.
CIX/CTX Integration Calling Party Identification
The Strata CIX/CTX telephone system provides the iES32 with incoming Calling Party ID via
CIX/CTX integration. Data messages or packets are sent into the system to provide information
concerning the type of call and the calling party ID.
Note When configuring the iES32 for CIX/CTX integration, make sure both the iES32 and the
telephone system are configured concurrently. If the phone system is configured for a 10-
digit Calling Party ID, the iES32 must also have the proper 10-digit integration patterns in
the Integration Patterns section of the Telephone System Integration screen in the
Configuration Menu. Also make sure the correct notification template has been selected in
the Notification Port Groups screen.
For this feature, CIX/CTX integration operates the same as standard SMDI. See Chapter 11
Advanced Integrations and Applications in the Stratagy ES I&M Manual for detailed information
on SMDI.
Configure Number of Voice Ports
Using the sys_og_timeslot parameter, configure the Strata CIX/CTX time slot(s) the iES32
monitors for information from the Strata CIX/CTX. The configuration is based on the number
of iES32 voice ports used and the slot the system is installed in.

iES32 System Time
Using the sys_clock_sync_interval parameter, you can synchronize iES32's system clock with the
system clock of the supporting Strata CIX/CTX telephone system. If the sys_clock_sync_interval
parameter is set to On, daylight savings time is automatically turned Off by the iES32.
Note This feature is standard with CIX/CTX integration. When setting up this feature, the
iES32's system time must be reset prior to syching with the Strata CIX/CTX.
Parameter
Description
Defines the frequency in minutes the iES32 synchronizes its system clock
with the system clock of the supporting Strata CIX/CTX telephone system.
0:
Clock synchronization is Off.
60
iES32 synchronizes every 60 minutes.
sys_clock_sync_interval
Important! The Strata CIX/CTX uses a 24-hour system clock, but does not
notate a.m./p.m. Because of this, during the initial installation
or when the system has been shut down for any extended
time, it is necessary to program the correct date and time in the
embedded NT Date/Time function.
KT Token
Directs calls to a designated User Agent when Strata CIX/CTX sends the message back that "night
transfer" is On, the DSS port is assigned in the "answering" User Agent, and the Night Transfer on
the DSS console is On.
Syntax: KT(XXX)G(YYY)
where:
XXX
Box number used when Night Transfer is On.
YYY
Box number used when Night Transfer is Off.
Night Transfer Alternate Routing
The KT( ) token is used by the Night Transfer Alternate Routing feature. The feature monitors the
Night Transfer mode of the Strata CIX/CTX switch in order to activate the KT( ) token for
alternate routing applications.
iES32 cannot be programmed to monitor the Night Transfer key when programmed on a telephone
only DSS Console. However, a Night Key can be programmed to appear on both a telephone and
DSS Console.
Program Example
The following is an example on how to program this feature. In this example, we use:
· User Agent: 990
· User Agent when NT mode is On: 921
· User Agent when NT mode is Off: 920
Stratagy iES32 Installation Guide 04/05
17
Installation Instructions
Step 11: Configure iES32 Settings

ID 920.
Thermal Sensing
The iES32 is equipped with a device that senses the ambient and CPU temperatures. The device
checks the temperatures every five minutes and initiates either a Warning notification or proceeds
to shut down the system (software).
The following are the thresholds:
· Notification: CPU 80 degrees C, ambient 65.
· Shutdown: CPU 90 degrees C, ambient 75.
The temperatures must be recorded at these thresholds for three consecutive checks before
notification or shutdown occurs. Current temperatures can be checked through Trace or NT Event
Viewer.
Note Event viewer only shows temperature at time of system start up or if there is a reading
outside of the specified range.
CAUTION!
Adjustment to any of these parameters could cause iES32 to not shut down at
the appropriate temperature and could cause permanent damage to the system.
Parameter

Stratagy iES32 Shutdown
Note This feature works only when iES32 is running.
Push the Shutdown button on the iES32's control panel for three~five seconds. All four port
LEDs flash.
The procedure sequentially shuts down both the application (StratagyIVP) and the operating
system (Windows NTE). When the shutdown is complete, the LEDs next to Shutdown and Power
on the control panel light solid.
Allow the system to remain in this state for one minute before you power down the board.
Power Button
On the iES32's control panel there is a Power button for powering off the iES32 without
interrupting power to the CIX/CTX so the system can be removed from the CIX/CTX cabinet. The
Power button can also be used to reboot the software in case of emergency or the image cannot
start normally.
To reboot
Push and hold the Power button for six seconds. The two LEDs (i.e., Shutdown, Power) flash
once indicating the reboot has started. The rebooting process may take about two minutes.
IVP Boot
When manipulating the desktop using NetMeeting, if the system is shut down by clicking Start >
Shutdown > Shutdown the Computer or Start > Shutdown > Restart the Computer, the system will
only shut down. To get the iES32 to shut down and restart, a new program called IVP Boot was
created.
IVPBoot is installed along with the server software and its icon is automatically installed on the
iES32's desktop (see Step 10: "Install Stratagy ES Administration Software On PC" on page 15).
Using IVPBoot, enables you to shut down and reboot Microsoft Windows NT Embedded running
on the iES32 without having to press the Shutdown button on the faceplate.
To reboot
1. Shut down iES32 using the StartStratagy procedure.
2. Once the Stratagy ES service is stopped, click on the IVPBoot desktop icon. There is a 32-
second timer, during which it is possible to cancel the shutdown.
3. When iES32 restarts, it is necessary to reconnect with NetMeeting in order to continue
administration.

Adding Second Daughterboard to Stratagy iES32
An iES32 with a second daughterboard installed requires two slots in the Strata CIX/CTX base or
expansion cabinet. Before starting the upgrade procedure, confirm there is sufficient space in the
cabinet to facilitate the additional slot requirement.
Note
Upgrading the iES32 in the field to support more than 16 ports requires the system to be
out-of-service. To avoid impacting your customer's business, the upgrade procedure
should be scheduled with the end user in advance.
Always wear an antistatic wrist strap when handling the iES32. This upgrade procedure requires
some assembly to the circuit boards. All assembly should be performed on a flat surface, clear of
dirt, liquid, debris, or objects that could create static electricity and cause permanent damage to the
system.
To add second daughterboard
Connect to the iES32 via Remote Access Service (RAS) and NetMeeting. See "Microsoft
NetMeeting" in the Stratagy ES I&M for details on using NetMeeting.
1. Stop the Stratagy ES application and set the Start Type field to Manual.
2. Open the Dialogic Configuration Manager (DCM). Stop the Dialogic System service and set
the Startup Mode option to Manual. Close the Dialogic Configuration Manager. See "Set
Dialogic System Service Mode" in the Stratagy ES I&M for details.
3. Power off the system by either pressing and holding the Power button on the front panel until
the system powers off or by turning off the power to the Strata CIX/CTX.
4. Remove the iES32 from the Strata CIX/CTX base or expansion cabinet.
5. Remove the four screws that fasten the first daughterboard to the baseboard.
6. Add the four standoffs that shipped with the new daughterboard to the mounts the screws were
removed from in Step 6.
7. Attach the second daughterboard to the first by aligning the connectors on the boards and
applying firm pressure until the connectors are well seated. The connectors should fit together
with minimal effort.
