1 - Introduction
Perfect Voice Pinnacle Tis32 is an integrated voice messaging and call routing system designed to
work with Toshiba Strata® CTX telephone systems. Perfect Voice Pinnacle Tis32 is packaged
entirely on a printed circuit board that resides in the host KSU. The architecture of the system
permits Perfect Voice Pinnacle Tis32 to be connected directly to the CTX system data bus. This
enables Perfect Voice Pinnacle Tis32 connectivity without the traditional analog interfaces necessary
for other voice processing systems. This means that no RSTU card is needed for Perfect Voice
Pinnacle Tis32.
System installation and initial configuration involves plugging in Perfect Voice Pinnacle Tis32 to an
available card slot in the CTX system. With the use of NetMeeting, Perfect Voice Pinnacle Tis32 can
be configured and maintained easily by using the graphical administration interface.

2 - Installation
This section provides the steps to install the Perfect Voice Pinnacle Tis32 hardware. For information

on configuring the system (creating mailboxes, classes of service, etc.), refer to the Perfect Voice
Pinnacle Installation & Maintenance Manual.
Installer Requirements

The installer plays a key role in the successful installation of the voice processing hardware and
software. In addition to performing the actual work of installing the product, the installer acts as a
liaison between the customer, telecommunications companies, and Teleco Technical Support. An
installer is required to have skills and experience in at least the basics of telephony and computer
technology, including the following:
Perfect Voice Pinnacle Technical training certification.
Training and experience in at least the general concepts of telecommunications.
Certified on the Toshiba Strata® CTX telephone system.
The ability to properly configure, install and remove circuit boards in a personal computer.

Step 1: Unpack and Inspect Perfect Voice Pinnacle Tis32
Before unpacking, make certain that none of the shipping containers were damaged during shipment.
Do not open any damaged shipping containers. Contact your shipping agent for appropriate claims.

WARNING: The battery on the Tis32 baseboard cannot be replaced in the field. Replacement of the
battery with an incorrect type creates the risk of explosion.

CAUTION
To ensure that the unit is not damaged during installation or maintenance, follow these precautions.
Damage may not always be immediately evident (e.g., no physical damage on the outside of the unit)
and system failure may result weeks or months later.
Handle Tis32 with care. Mechanical shock from dropping, shaking, excessive force when
seating the board into the slot, rocking a connector on or other activities can severely

damage the disk assembly or the disk's printed circuit board.
Wear an anti-static wrist strap. It can also be re-used and left with the Strata CTX cabinet.
An electrostatic charge from your body can damage the drive or circuitry permanently.
Hold Tis32 by the edges or the knob on the control panel and never touch the board's

surface. Pressure on the printed circuit board or contaminants from your hands (e.g., skin
oil, food particles, hand lotion) can cause component failure.
Step 2: Install BSIS Card
N o t e
TPI is required for Tis32. A BSIS card must be installed in the Strata CTX.

Install and program serial card BSIS in the Strata CTX. The serial cable will be used to connect the
BSIS card to the Pinnacle Tis32.

Step 3: Program Strata CTX
To the Strata CTX processor, the Perfect Voice Pinnacle Tis32 functions as one or two digital station
cards, each supporting up to 16 voice ports (BDKU). Although there are some special program
settings required for Tis32, the Strata CTX should be programmed just as it would for any external
voice mail system.
The following items can be programmed using the CTX WinAdmin program software or phone
programming command set. Refer to Strata CTX I&M Manual and Strata CTX Programming
Manual.

Step 5: Install Perfect Voice Pinnacle Tis32
1. Locate the proper slot for Tis32.
If there is not an available slot for Tis32, stop here. If a T1, DID or TIE line card needs to be
relocated to make room for Tis32, do so now. Make sure the necessary programming changes are
made to account for this move. Below are tables showing where Tis32 may be installed in the Strata
CTX100 or Strata CTX670 cabinets.

Strata CTX100
There are four slots (S101 to S104) in the base cabinet and four slots (S105 to S108) in the
expansion cabinet available for use by Tis32. The following figure and table gives information on
the number of ports available for installation in each slot.
If more than 16 ports are used, the Tis32 must be installed in slots S101, S105 or S107, and the
corresponding neighboring slot (S102, S106, or S108, respectively) must be left empty. This is
because Tis32 requires the time slot information that is delivered to the empty slot.

Strata CTX670
Base Cabinet
The Base Cabinet has two dedicated slots used for the system processor PCBs (B101 and B102) and
eight universal slots, labeled S101 through S108 that can accommodate Tis32. All eight slots (slots
S101~S108) in the cabinet can accommodate one 16-port Tis32. If more than 16 ports are needed, a
32-port card may be installed but the neighboring slot must be left empty. This is because Tis32
requires the time slot information that is delivered to the empty slot.

Expansion Cabinets
The first six slots (slots S_01 to S_06) in the Strata CTX670 expansion cabinet can accommodate a
16-port Tis32. If more than 16 ports are needed, a 32-port card may be installed but the neighboring
slot must be left empty. This is because Tis32 requires the time slot information that is delivered to
the empty slot. (To help protect against Strata CTX configuration errors, the physical profile of the
32-port Tis32 extends into the adjacent CTX card slot.)
The next two slots (slots S_07 to S_08) in the cabinet can only accommodate a 16-port Tis32 card
that is configured eight ports. Slots S_09 and S_10 cannot be used.

2. Install Perfect Voice Pinnacle Tis32 according to the following steps.

Allow Tis32 to sit at room temperature for at least 3 hours before applying any

power. Shipping can expose Tis32 to temperature extremes. Let Tis32 adjust to room
temperature to avoid any possible damage from condensation, etc.

Remove Tis32 from its protective package. Remember to handle the Tis32 card with care.
Wear an anti-static wrist strap and hold the card by its edges.

Insert the Tis32 PCB into the appropriate slot and apply firm, even pressure to ensure proper
connection. CAUTION: Do not insert the board too slowly and make sure the board is
pushed all the way in or the key system may behave in an unexpected manner. In most cases,
however, this behavior will correct itself within a couple of minutes.
After installing, gently pull the card outward. You should feel a slight resistance. If you don't
feel the resistance, apply pressure again.

Step 6: Connect Tis32 Network Port to Strata CTX
Tis32 uses a static IP address (192.168.254.252) as the default for its network setting that matches
the Strata CTX's default. Even if using a static IP, the Tis32 must be properly configured for the
network it is being installed in. Check and/or change the IP address, default gateway and
SubnetMask settings. The Tis32 Network port is equipped with a 10/100BaseT Ethernet connection.
This port is used to connect Tis32 to the Local Area Network (LAN) for Unified Messaging and TPI.
The LAN connection can also be used to communicate with a separate Windows computer using
CTX WinAdmin and / or NetMeeting to access the Perfect Voice Pinnacle administration interface.
A straight through network cable used with a network hub is required. This is because of the need to
connect to the Strata CTX for TPI and the end-users network for e-mail connectivity.

Functioning Properly
Each Tis32 has been preprogrammed at the factory for out-of-box operation on the Strata CTX. This
includes the integration and configuration parameters, and company greeting and instructions.
Turn on the main power switch to the Strata CTX system. Let it proceed without any action
from you. The Power LED should turn green when the system is operational.
Dial the extension number for each port. Tis32 should (for each port) answer and play the
default company greeting ("Thank you for calling...").

Step 8: Connect to Perfect Voice Pinnacle Tis32 Admin Using
NetMeeting
By default, the Perfect Voice Pinnacle Tis32 is shipped with a static IP address set to
192.168.254.252. The address may be changed if necessary. If the network is set up with a DHCP
server, refer to "Setting up DHCP" below.
If using Static IP Address (out-of-box default)
N O T E
In order to connect to the Perfect Voice Pinnacle Tis32, the IP address of the
Admin PC needs to be changed. Teleco recommends changing it to
192.168.254.251.

To start NetMeeting (Static IP Address):
Click Programs > Accessories > Communications > NetMeeting
In the NetMeeting program, click Tools > Options > Security
Under Outgoing Calls, select "I prefer to make secure outgoing calls."
Under Certificate, select "Use privacy (Encryption) only" then click OK.

Click the telephone icon. The Place a Call box is displayed.
In the To field, type Perfect Voice Pinnacle Tis32's IP Address (192.168.254.252 is the
default). When prompted enter the user name and password. (The default user name is
"Administrator" and the default password is "Administrator".) Leave the Domain field

blank. This completes the connection between Tis32 and the Admin PC using NetMeeting.
To start the system administration interface, double-click the Admin icon and log into
Perfect Voice Pinnacle Admin.
If using DHCP
Since Perfect Voice Pinnacle Tis32 uses a static IP address by default, the following steps must be
performed to set-up the system for DHCP.
Setting Up DHCP (while connected with NetMeeting via static IP address)
Right-click Network Neighborhood, Select Properties
Select Protocols, select TCP/IP
Click Properties
Check "Obtain IP address automatically"

To start NetMeeting (DHCP):
Click Programs > Accessories > Communications > NetMeeting
Click the telephone icon. The Place a Call box is displayed.
Enter the computer name (The default computer name is Pinnacle-Tis32).
When prompted enter the user name and password. (The default user name is
"Administrator" and the default password is " Administrator ".) Leave the Domain field
blank. This completes the connection between Tis32 and the Admin PC using NetMeeting.
To start the system administration interface, double-click the Admin icon and log into
Perfect Voice Pinnacle Admin.
