NEC Elite PC Assistant

FEATURE DESCRIPTION
The NEC Elite PC Assistant provides a desktop application to allow basic telephone functionality through
a software interface. This feature uses the CT(U)-R/CT(A)-R Adapter as the TAPI device for the
application to control the user telephone. Using this application, the user can easily manage call
handling tasks without switching attention between the telephone and the PC. Advanced features such
as recording ability, E-mail integration, and personal greeting available with the Professional version
provide additional assistance to meet the industry need for this product. The NEC Elite PC Assistant
has three main components:
H
NEC Elite PC Assistance software
This application runs on a PC and provides the PC-based GUI (Graphical User Interface) and
features.
H
CT(U)-R/CT(A)-R Adapter
This adapter is installed on the Multiline Terminal and interfaces the Electra Elite IPK with the USB
(Universal Serial Bus) port or an available Serial port on the PC.
H
Headset (Optional)
A headset can be plugged into the Multiline Terminal and used when making or receiving calls with
the NEC Elite PC Assistant.
The NEC Elite PC Assistant runs on a PC and communicates with the Electra Elite IPK through a normal
digital station port using the CT(U)-R/CT(A)-R Adapter attached to the telephone. When a call comes
into this station it is displayed on the PC and provides several features that allow the user to handle the
call quickly. The NEC Elite PC Assistant can be minimized to run in the background and pop to the front
when call activity occurs. Calls can be handled with the keyboard or the mouse. The user speaks to a
caller through the handset, headset, or speakerphone of the Multiline Terminal the application is running
on.
The following sections define the basic operation and look and feel of the NEC Elite PC Assistant.

Personal Directory
The Elite PC Assistant provides a personal directory to assist the user with the call handling activity.
Each employee name in an organization can be entered into the directory to provide the user quick
access to their personal directory. All entries in the personal directory will have name and designated
telephone numbers: Branch Office, Business, Car Phone, Cellular, Conference Room, Data, Fax, Home,
Home Office, Lab, Mobile, Pager, Remote Office, and Temporary.
Call Log
The Call Log is similar to that of the PC Console applications. An inbound or outbound indicator is in the
left most column followed by a telephone number dialed or received. When there is a name in the CLID
information on an inbound call, it is included in that same column. On outbound calls, when a directory
entry is selected, that name is displayed.
Busy Line Key Indicators
The busy line indicators are located below the number in each field and appear when the telephone is
taken off hook to originate or answer a call. A green indicator means the line is active. When the call is
placed on hold, the indicator turns yellow. When an inbound call is ringing, the indicator is red. When
the call is terminated, there is no line status indicator.
UP to eight line key indicators can be displayed at the same time. When the mouse is placed on top of a
line indicator, the display for that line is shown. This could help when multiple calls are on hold and the
user needs to confirm which line is linked to a specific caller.
Supported KTS Features
The following KTS features have corresponding icons that can be placed on the Control Bar. At a
minimum, features visible by default are indicated.

H
Voice Over Split
In addition to these feature keys, a Dial/Hang UP icon (telephone) controls the hook state and a Hold key
that are always on the Control Bar. When too many keys are selected for display on the Control Bar, the
UI expands and a second row of icons is displayed under the top row.
Certain KTS features like Transfer, Conference, or Park, require additional information and control.
When one of these features is initiated by pressing the icon while a call is active, a separate control box
with the necessary commands or keys to join the callers or complete the call park operation is displayed.
Recording
A Record key (Professional Version) is a default key on the application. When this Record key is
pressed, the icon transitions to a Stop Record key. Recording continues until the call has ended or the
Stop Record key is pressed. When a call is recorded, a tape icon is displayed in the call log next to the
call record. When a Hold key is pressed during a recorded conversation, the white (empty) space is not
recorded.
PIM Integration
The NEC Elite PC Assistant (Professional Version) can integrate with Microsoft Outlook, ACT! 2005 or
higher, and Goldmine V6.7 or higher. When this option is enabled, and an inbound call is received with
an associated number that matches an entry in the PIM (Personal Information Manager) database, the
contact window for that user is automatically displayed.
An option is also provided in preferences to allow a contact window to popup when a call is received
from outside the KTS. This allows a user to ignore contact popup on internal calls.

H
A check of the button mapping on the Multiline Terminal can be performed by looking in File/
Telephony/Check Button Mapping. Anytime Memory Block 4-12 (Line Key Selection for Telephone
Mode) has been changed for the NEC Elite PC Assistant Multiline Terminal, this check must be
performed.
H
Advanced features (recording ability, e-mail integration, and personal greeting) are available only
in the Professional Package.
H
For Call Park to work, Memory Block 1-8-51 (Call Park Selection) should be set to LK1 to support
10 park locations (R4000 or higher)
Restrictions:
H
Only eight line key indicators can be displayed at one time with the NEC Elite PC Assistant
application.
H
The NEC Elite PC Assistant and ACD using the MIFA-U( ) ETU are not supported simultaneously
from the same Multiline Terminal.
H
When installing the TAPI driver on the NEC Elite PC Assistant, always select 32/32D telephones
no matter what model is actually used.
H
For Auto Headset Seize to work, a Feature Access Key must be programmed in Memory Block
4-12 (Line Key Selection for Telephone Mode) on the NEC Elite PC Assistant telephone, and the
application must be set to find that key in File/Telephony/Telephony Configuration/Operation
Mode.
H
The CT(U)-R Unit is required when using the voice functions associated with the Professional
Package. The CT(A)-R Unit does not support voice functions.
H
In a CCIS network, multiple extension lengths are not supported by this application.
H
When 5, 6, or 7-digit station numbers are used, this feature is not available.
H
Currently, the DTH-16LD terminal is not supported when using the Elite PC Assistant to program
Speed Dial or DSS/BLF keys.
H
Conferencing using PC Assistant only shows one leg and not the subsequence legs of the
conference call.
H
When using Goldmine 6.7 or higher for the contact manager, the internal extension number field
must be set in the Phone number field, not in the Ext. field in order for station-to-station calls to
pop.
H
Recording playback uses the default Windows audio playback device. Depending on the setting in
Windows Control Panel, this could be the PC's speakers or the NEC USB telephone audio device.
H
NEC Elite PC Assistant logs all calls, missed or answered. Missed calls will show no duration.
